Air conditioning repair, new condensers and summer service in Yakima

Yakima summers do not ask permission. When the air conditioner quits on a hot afternoon, the same crew that keeps the Valley's furnaces running answers the phone and comes out to look.

Chapter 01

What fails when the thermometer passes 100

An air conditioner works hardest on exactly the days you can least afford to lose it. Eric Helberg wrote that it was 106 degrees out when Theisen's technician showed up in September 2023, got the system fixed, and gave him air conditioning again. That is the call the shop hears most: the unit that ran all week and stopped on the hottest afternoon.

The usual causes are a short list. A capacitor that no longer starts the compressor or the fan. A condenser fan motor that has stopped turning. A coil caked with dirt that cannot shed heat. A low refrigerant charge, which usually means a leak somewhere along the line set. A condensate line that has plugged and tripped the system off. A thermostat that is not asking for cooling at all. Some of these are twenty-minute fixes. Some are the sign that the unit is at the end of its life.

Jeff Wangler's story is the quick kind. His air conditioner quit working in the afternoon, he called Ryan early the next morning, and technician Eric arrived on time at 1 and had it fixed within 20 minutes. He added that Theisen is who he will call when it is time to replace the unit. If your system has stopped, call (509) 452-4787 on a weekday between 8 and 5, from Yakima, Selah, West Valley, Moxee, Wapato, Naches, Parker or Ahtanum.

How an A/C repair or replacement is handled

A repair visit starts with finding the actual fault rather than guessing at it. The technician checks the capacitor, the condenser fan, the coil, the refrigerant charge, the line set and the condensate drain, then tells you what he found. A failed part gets replaced. A system that has more than one thing wrong gets a straight conversation about whether the next repair is worth making.

When the answer is a new unit, the old condenser comes out and a new one goes in. Most of what Theisen installs is American Standard, and Lennox is also carried. The crew sets the condenser on a clean pad or risers, connects the line set to the coil, and charges the system with refrigerant. Dave Johnson's check-up led to a replacement of both his original heater and his air conditioner, done on time and within budget. David Eldred's rebate story applies here too: the team handled the power company's rebate paperwork after the work was done, and re-submitted it until it came through as a $2,000 check.

Chris Gordon wrote that the crew came on time, finished quickly and cleanly, and held his hand through the city inspector process. Gwyn M. called a full removal and installation, after a mid-winter system failure, orchestrated with professionalism and courtesy. A summer replacement is run the same way.

Chapter 03

Service before the 100-degree weeks, not during them

Theisen generally suggests a routine service every other year, and many customers book every fall for the furnace. A cooling check before the hot weeks follows the same logic. A maintenance visit before the hot weeks is the cheap time to catch a weak capacitor, a dirty coil or a plugged condensate line, because the technician is not racing a heat wave and neither are you.

What a good tune-up buys you is a quiet July. The coil is clean, the fan spins freely, the refrigerant charge is where it belongs, and the thermostat is calling for cooling when it should. If something is marginal, you hear about it in May rather than the day it hits 106.

“Prompt, professional, reasonably priced.” Jeff Wangler, Google review, July 2025.

One condenser swap from the service record. Same spot beside the house, different unit. See more of this work on the project showcase, browse the full list on the services page, or send the office a note about your own system.
